Our leisure base Canoë Explorando Dordogne is specialized in canoeing since 1986 and offers tours of 2 to 6 days or more according to your desires.
From Argentat to Beynac, you travel the most beautiful part of the Dordogne for a descent of more than 120 kilometers to the rhythm of nature and its heritage sites...

Our stages were designed to sail an average of 20 kilometers per day, or
about 4 hours of paddling. This is a distance that will allow you to stroll and contemplate
the environment. Enjoy the most beautiful beaches along the river and visit the villages you will pass through.

Departures are made every day by reservation of April to October from our base Canoë Explorando Dordogne located in Groléjac.

Practical information

The base

Meeting at the Canoe Explorando Dordogne departure base You will have a shaded and free parking to park your car

Appointment

The appointment is given from 8:30 in the morning (or the day before at the end of the day around 17:30 pm) for a departure of the shuttle at 9:30 am This will give you time to prepare your things and get organized.

Equipment

We provide you with the necessary equipment for your canoeing so that you can store all your belongings. However, try to bring the bare minimum and not overwork yourself. An explanatory sheet will be sent to you at the time of booking to prepare your canoeing.

Let's start the adventure

Once you are ready, the equipment loaded on the trailer, you get into the shuttle and off to adventure !

We bring you to the starting point defined in relation to the number of days chosen and our team will give you on site the instructions and recommendations to navigate safely on the Dordogne.

We advise you to purchase the basic food for a maximum of 2 days and water in advance. You can store it in a waterproof container.

You will find all along the river villages that will provide you with supplies. More details will be available on the navigation map that we will give you at departure.

Campsites also have restaurants or grocery stores.
Attention ! In low season, not all campsites will be open. You will need to
inform in advance for the structures you are interested in.

Itineraries

Day 1 : Argentat > Beaulieu/Dordogne Stage 22 kms – Level class 2 (Attention : children from 7 years for this stage)
Departure from campsite Europe, 2 kilometres downstream of Argentat, at the crossing of the Malpas, possibility to leave you downstream for those who do not want the do. Passage of the Brivezac and Battut rapids before arrival in Beaulieu-sur-Dordogne and its chapel on the edge of a river, passage from the slide to the left bank.
Possibility of bivouac in the canal of the gabarriers or camping Huttopia right bank.
Day 2 : Beaulieu/Dordogne > Carennac Stage 20 kms – Level class 1
Departure from Beaulieu, you will see the Estresses castle on your right. You will have the opportunity to visit the castle of Castelnau-Bretenoux (30 minutes walk from the river on the left bank)
Before your arrival on Carennac, you can contemplate the ruins of Taillefer at Gintrac.
Then on your left, you will have the Camping l'Eau Vive if you wish.
Visit of Carennac which is one of the most beautiful villages in France, and passage of the slide to leave the village.
Day 3 : Carennac > St Sozy Stage 20 kms – Level 1
You will cross the high cliffs of Quercy. You will have the opportunity to enjoy a hiking at the village of Floirac with the Cascades de Caillon. You will pass by the belvedere of Copeyre, then you can make a stop in Gluges with its church whose restoration was financed by Mrs Edith Piaf.
In St-Sozy camping right or left bank.
Day 4 : St Sozy > Souillac Stage 18 kms – Level 1
Sector Lacave left bank where you will find several tourist sites. At the confluence of the Ouysse you will be below the castle of Belcastel, a few meters after following the water level you can enter a cave with your boat. You will also have the opportunity to visit the caves of Lacave. If you want to walk a little more, the Préhisto Dino Parc is one of the sites in the area.
On your left bank, pass the castle of the Treyne, Bastit and Lanzac before arrival in Souillac.
Day 5 : Souillac > Groléjac Stage 22 kms – Level Class 1
Nature trip, mid-route break at the bridge of St Julien de Lampon, with the castle of Rouffillac.
Fénelon castle on your left, couasne of Aillac with its old port of fishing. Veyrignac castle and the gravel rehabilitated with a preserved nature. In Groléjac, you will pass its castle and you will find the starting point on your left. Possibility to take your car if you want to visit Sarlat or Gourdon. Several campsites nearby.

For arrivals in Groléjac, you will arrive directly at the departure base. So you are not constrained by the schedule of the return shuttle. It will be possible to finish your tour by 6 pm at the latest
Day 6 : Groléjac > Beynac Stage 22 kms – Level 1
The Cingle of Monfort with its castle that dominates the valley, passing at the foot of Domme ancient medieval bastide, arrival at the troglodytic village of La Roque-Gageac, which is one of the most beautiful villages in France.
Castle of Castelnaud (The chapel), opposite the hanging gardens of Marqueyssac then the arrival on the beach of Vézac with the castle of Fayrac on your left and the splendid castle of Beynac in front.

For arrivals in Beynac, a single return shuttle will be available each day at 4pm to take you back with your equipment to the departure base
Day 7/8 : Beynac > Limeuil Stage 30 kms – Level 1 class
Want to discover more of the Dordogne ? Choose our largest trip and go for the full Dordogne Valley.
In the program of this last stage, the castle of the Milandes that you can visit. You will sail around small villages in the region and old buildings in the heart of nature: Allas-les-Mines, St Cyprien, Siorac, Le Buisson. Then you will finish this tour in front of the village of Limeuil at the confluence of the Dordogne and the Vézère.

You can camp along the river. Wild camping is tolerated on the banks but fires are prohibited to preserve nature (Kit bivouac available as an option)

How to eat along the trip ?

You can embark your own picnic to enjoy a meal in the middle of nature! We provide waterproof containers to keep your food and belongings away from water.

If you prefer to eat on site, several villages border the river, with restaurants and grocery stores easily accessible. These stops are indicated on the navigation map provided before your departure.

Finally, some campsites along the Dordogne have restaurants or grocery stores, ideal for a gourmet break. Be careful though, these establishments may be closed in low season.

Important note on respect for the environment

Canoeing guarantees you a real change of scenery, a life in harmony and the rhythm of nature, in an idyllic setting.

During these few days of canoeing, you will be immersed in the heart of nature.
We are proud and encourage each of you to take care of our environment.

Be careful not to throw any polluting material into the river and collect all your waste when you pass through different places.

Notice to anglers : although your fishing rod may be a little bulky on a canoe, people who wish to engage in the activity will be able to do so on condition of purchasing
prior to the fishing card (available at merchants and in some campsites) allowing to practice the activity on the river.

The rules to follow before going canoeing

Level Class 1 > Navigation forbidden to children under 5 years old
Level Class 2 > Navigation forbidden to children under 7 years old

For canoeing longer than 3 days, we advise that children are at least 8 years old. With teenagers, it’s a great experience !
All participants are required to be able to swim 25 meters and dive
Children aged 5 to 12 years old must be accompanied by an adult
